Abi Leeland

Stylist/ Colorist

How and why did you start doing hair?

My aunt taught me how to French Braid when I was about 8 years old and it kick started an obsession. I used to braid her horse’s manes and then I graduated to coloring my friends’ hair when we were in our early teens. I was always the go-to person in my friend group for hair advice and styling so it became a given that I would go straight to Hairdressing School after High School. In 2009 I decided to color my hair pink and I’ve been in love with fashion colors ever since.

If you could do hair for any famous person, living or dead, whom would it be?

Amy Winehouse

Who is your personal style icon?

I don’t really have one. I take bits and pieces from whatever I find appealing and try to create something that’s my own. Some days I like to sway more towards the 50’s pin up style and others I’m comfortable in ripped jeans. My number 1 rule is you can never be over-dressed.

If you could go back in time and live in any time period, in which period would you choose to live?

Probably the 50’s when the feminist movement was really kicking off. Women were kicking ass all around at the jobs men had previously held but they still managed to keep their style on point.

If you were an alcoholic beverage, what would you be?

Something fruity and sweet, like a Mai Tai or a Malibu Sunrise.

If you could bring one album with you to a desert island, which would you bring?

My favorite album changes at least once a year so that’s a tough one. I can never get enough of Motown though so probably an Otis Redding or Stevie Wonder album.
