How and why did you start doing hair?

I grew up in the Hudson Valley; and when I was in high school I asked my guidance counselor if I could do a vocational program for hair. She refused and said, "You're not on that path," since I was in honors. Then I came to the city to go to Eugene Lang, and while I was in school I was a receptionist in a really cool salon on Great Jones St. The stylists were all so crazy and awesome! They definitely encouraged me to do the program at Aveda. I dropped out of college after my second year - and it turned out to be the best decision I could have made for myself! I guess everything kind of lands where it's supposed to if you keep pushing.

If you could do hair for any famous person, living or dead, whom would it be?

Tie between Ryan Gosling (obvious reasons) and Mariska Hargitay (she's my hero). Jennifer Lawrence is a hard runner up.

Who is your personal style icon?

Winona Ryder and Stevie Nicks. Also as a female of a certain generation I can't really talk about style without mentioning Sarah Jessica Parker. So a mash up, if that's allowed.

If you could go back in time and live in any time period, in which period would you choose to live?

Game of Thrones.

If you were an alcoholic beverage, what would you be?

A mint julep!

If you could bring one album with you to a desert island, which would you bring?

I would have a real Sophie's Choice moment between Rumors (Fleetwood Mac) and Soul Journey (Gillian Welch)
